Reiki is a Japanese form of energy work. Ki, or as some know it as 'chi', is part of our natural energetic circulation in the body. With stress and other factors of daily life, including emotional turmoil, our energy can get out of balance and then we feel weak, out of sorts and that feeling of getting sick but knowing that we are perfectly healthy. A Reiki session is a way to realign those energy patterns of the body to help feel more 'grounded' and back together. It is also a way to relax more deeply, ease pain, and thus, improve sleep as well.
This gentle modality has been used in hospitals and hospices to help with healing and pain relief. Children and animals have had excellent results with reiki!
In a Reiki session the Reiki practitioner either lays their hands lightly on the body or holds them a few inches above it, directing the Rei-ki energy (translates as Universal Life Force Energy) into the layers of the body: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Often the client feels warmth or gentle tingling as the energy blocks loosen and the body's natural energetic flow returns to a healthy state.
The Reiki session is given with the client clothed, lying on the massage table and lightly covered with a blanket. Soft music is played and often the use of essential oils helps to deepen the experience. Sessions are 60 minutes and can be combined with a regular massage for a fuller healing experience.
