CUPPING or GUA-SHA
Cupping is a 'Traditional Chinese Medicine' practice that uses warmed jars or suction cups that create a light vacuum pressure when applied to the body. It's purpose is to reduce local congestion of Qi and blood to relieve pain. It is especially useful as a therapy for treating areas of chronic tension or persistent "knots".
Guasha is another traditional Chinese healing technique involving rhythmic scraping motions of the skin and muscles with a flat instrument traditionally made of stone or bone. Guasha removes blood stagnation, promotes normal circulation and metabolic processes and is valuable in treating pain disorders and preventing illness.
